Tea! tea! tea!

Tea is a wonderful beverage that has been standing alongside coffee in waking mankind from their nap beds as well as rejuvenating tired, cold souls with the unique aroma and taste. Although the origin of tea is still a mystery, many legends tell us that it originated in China around 1500 BC when a king happened to drink  some hot water in which the leaves from a mystical tree fell and the king fell in love with the scent. I am sipping from a hot cup of milky tea as I write this and gulps of the strong beverage rejuvenate my soul and body.

In India, tea has vivid faces in different states. The Maharashtrian tea smells of ginger and cardamom in milk and tastes a bit more sugary which tempts us to have gallons of it as you go out especially in winters. The Bihari tea is rather smoky as Bihari people love to have it that way. It is prepared by boiling milk and tea powder for longer duration and then after served in disposable mud pots. Kerala serves both black tea and milk tea with and without sugar and in different strengths depending upon the need and demand. In hilly areas, people love sipping hot tea with traditional jackfruit, tapioca and yam dishes during winter months. Tea is widely cultivated in tea plantations in Munnar in Kerala and exported worldwide.

We happened to taste the exotic taste of Turkish tea in a trip to Turkey. The quality and aroma of the tea steeped in Turkish streets can never be duplicated anywhere in world. In most restaurants , tea is served free with a piece of Turkish baklawa or Turkish delight after a heavy meal. Turkey produces large range of tea  with lots of herbs and flowers mixed, for different seasons, diseases etc displayed very attractively in shops aimed specifically on tourists.

Europeans have their own tea culture from very old times. They discuss diplomatic deals enjoying tea served in expensive tea sets. Ireland stands out in steeping tea and serving. Irish tea is very strong, with very little milk added to it and majority of the population opt out of sugar. They love drinking many glasses of tea on a single day.
Years, ages and centuries would fade away, but tea will remain the icon of love, unison and companionship all through the years.
